Pi Network’s First Year: Migration Hurdles and Protocol Evolution
Pi Network's open mainnet marks its one-year anniversary with significant milestones, including exchange listings, protocol upgrades, and over 16 million migrated users. However, underlying friction persists. Millions of users remain unable to access their coins due to incomplete KYC processes, unmigrated tokens, and zero-balance displays. This disconnect between official announcements and user experience continues to characterize the ecosystem.
Two-factor authentication (2FA) has become a critical bottleneck. Mandatory verification via Facebook, phone number, and email for token migration is leaving non-compliant users indefinitely locked out. "It is one of the most important things to migrate your Pi coin," emphasizes crypto commentator Crypto Boy, highlighting the strictness of these requirements.
The network's technical roadmap indicates a prolonged upgrade cycle. While the v19.6 protocol upgrade was successfully deployed on February 15, five more versions—including v19.9 and v20.2—are scheduled through March. This incremental progression underscores the project's ongoing architectural development, even as it celebrates its anniversary.
